This building was constructed in 1906 based on a design by preeminent Manitoba architect Samuel Hooper. It was originally an International Order of Good Templars (IOGT) hall. Though founded in the U.S. as a Temperance organization, the IOGT was particularly popular in Nordic countries, especially Iceland. The hall became a cornerstone of Icelandic life in the West End. It was home to a youth group and sports club as well as the scene of countless Icelandic language plays, speeches, conferences and social evens. The building has also been an Independent Order of Foresters hall and a bingo hall for Winnserv Inc.
In 2015, the building was purchased by the congregation of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Church who renovated it into their new worship space. The order was founded in Nigeria in 1952 and since the 1980s has spread throughout Africa, Europe and North America.
Guided tours will run throughout the day, lasting 20 minutes.
