The St. Norbert Arts Centre is a cultural, historical and environmental focal point for people from all walks of life. Its seclusion allows for quiet contemplation while still close to the Winnipeg urban environment. We honour this land from the ancient grounds of the Ojibway people, when the LaSalle River was formerly the banks of the Assiniboine 2000+ years ago. We hold strong to our roots in St. Norbert as the birthplace of a thriving Métis people leading to the historic events of LaBarrière and the Riel Resistance. Our home, L’Hotellerie or Guest House was built in the late 19th century by the silent Cistercian order of Trappist Monks from LaTrappe, France who built a thriving agricultural community of prayer and self-sufficiency through the early 20th century.
Tours of the grounds run throughout the day, starting on the hour and lasting 15 to 20 minutes.
