Let the countdown to Doors Open Winnipeg 2022 being! There are so many great buildings, events and tours to check out this year – have you started making plans to celebrate all of Winnipeg’s wonderful neighbourhoods on May 28th and 29th? This FREE event is a great way to explore and learn about our community’s amazing architecture, history and culture.
Make sure you check the details of each building, event and tour you would like to attend as they all have different registration and public health requirements. If registration is required to attend, it will open Friday, May 20th at noon. Register for you favourites right away because popular tours can fill up in just a few minutes! And don’t forget there are lots of great places you can visit that do not require any registration – just show up and enjoy.
This year we are especially excited about some of the new buildings, events and tour taking part. Dress in your best 1919 outfit to attend a screening of Stand!, a movie musical at the historic Burton Cummmings Theatre. Or for a shorter film on the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike, visit the Millennium Centre to see 1919 Strike Illuminated in the majestic banking hall. See Wolseley and the West End with new eyes as you stroll through history with a fantastic new walking tour. Check out the four stunning buildings new to Doors Open, the Augustine Centre, Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Université de Saint-Boniface and WestEnd Commons and learn how historic structure serve their modern communities. For those looking for an adventure, head north of the city to Birds Hill Park to visit the 1936 Kudlowich Homestead, tucked away on the serene Pine Ridge Trail.
