Doors Open Winnipeg Awards

Doors Open Winnipeg Ballot

This year Heritage Winnipeg is proud to introduce the Doors Open Winnipeg Awards. For the first time in Canada visitors can vote for their favourite buildings/events and ballots are available at every building. Winners will be presented with a ‘spectacular’ award created by local artist Jordan van Sewell at a media event in June. This will take place at the Winnipeg Free Press Café in the Exchange. You may vote in following categories:

St. Boniface MuseumHistoires du pays à la façon des voyageurs ! Ils raconteront des contes et légendes canadiennes françaises adaptés à un auditoire jeunesse! Animé par Yan Dallaire et Marie-Anne Beaudette-Dallaire.

Lieu: Le musée de Saint-Boniface (la petite chapelle), 494 avenue Taché
Samedi le 28 mai, 13h00 - présentation en français - durée 30 minutes.

“Jean-Baptiste the voyageur and his wife Germaine!”

A lighthearted look at Canada through legends and short stories as told by two voyageurs! Suitable for children ages 2-10. Performed by Yan Dallaire and Marie-Anne Beaudette-Dallaire.

Location: St. Boniface Museum (chapel), 494 Taché Avenue
Saturday May 28th - 2:00 pm – 30-minute presentation in English



Via Rail Station“From Shanty to Smoke and Steam”

A 30-minute visual history of the Forks and former CNR Station and 30-minute tour following the presentation. Presented by Greg Agnew.

Location: VIA Rail – Union Station (rotunda), 123 Main Street
Saturday May 28th - 12:30-1:00 pm & 2:30-3:00 pm



Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg – the former CPR Station“All Aboard – Rails, Rags, and Riches”

The role of the CPR in the growth of the City. Presented by Greg Agnew.

Location: Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg – the former CPR Station, 181 Higgins Ave.
Saturday May 28th – 11:15 am & 3:30 pm
Sunday May 29th – 11:00 am - 5:00 pm, presentations begin 15 minutes after every hour. Presentations 45 minutes.



Artspace – Gault Building“Winnipeg’s first ‘Merchant Prince’, James H. Ashdown, through the eyes of his great-grandson Bill Ashdown.”

Location: Artspace – Gault Building (Board Room – 4th floor), 100 Arthur St.
Saturday May 28th – 11:00-11:30 am, 12:00-12:30 pm, 1:30-2:00, 2:30-3:00 & 3:30-4:00 pm. (max. 30 people – first come first serve)
